Nicki!

Woof! My eyes must be square like my Mac because I just spent the last 2 hours catching up and answering fanmail. You are all a chatty bunch but lately it’s been hard to keep up with all the letters!! I always try my best to respond as soon as I can and big apologies to you if you don’t hear from me right away. I’m a one woman band over here and I’m trying my best!

I am always so touched that you write to tell me about how the books play a part in your lives and this e-mail from Nicki was so sweet. She wrote:

Hi Sarah!
I know that most people write you and tell you how great your cookbooks are and that you’ve inspired them to go vegan etc… but that’s not why I am writing you.

A couple of years ago around the holidays I wanted to do something nice for my family and friends but I didn’t have a lot of money.  Fortunately, I did have La Dolce Vegan, which contains the directions for making a sock monkey.  I made some, gave them away and everybody loved them.

Fast forward to the following year.  I was talking to a friend of mine who was putting together a craft show/bazaar for Black Friday and she needed more vendors/artists.  My boyfriend overheard and piped in that I made sock monkeys.  Next thing I know I’m in a craft show and I actually made some money, Yay!

At this point (2 years from the first time I ever made a monkey)  I am now making all kinds of sock creatures, I have been featured in 2 art galleries and I have a regular spot at a local gallery, my friend and I have put together the Cleveland Crafters Coalition, a group who gets together the first Saturday of every  month to sell our crafts/art, I’m a member of Cleveland Handmade and I’ve got a page on etsy (ZombieSocks.etsy.com).  I’m doing at least 3 art/craft shows a month and I’m have the time of my life.  And all because you were kind enough to include the pattern in your cookbook.  Thank you.
Love ya! ~nicki~

Thank you Nicki for the great letter! I am so honoured that my sock-monkey recipe in La Dolce Vegan made such an impact. 🙂

Go visit Nicki’s Etsy page … there are some seriously cute characters over there.
