Texas?

I was checking my websites Google Analytics (so facinating) and was not surpised to find that the top 3 US states that visit my website are California, NY and Oregon … but what did surprise me is how many visits I get from Texas! Don’t mess with Texas!!  🙂

Perhaps I am long overdue for a visit down south. Are there any fun vegan festivals in Texas??

You should definitely come to Austin!

We have a vegetarian chili cook off in Austin on November 15. Most of the chili is vegan. You might want to check this site (http://www.vegnetaustin.org/) in October for more info.

Not too long ago, we had a vegan hot dog eating contest on July 4th. With free vegan ice cream. I would check out http://www.veganaustin.org for more events. We’re getting more and more exclusively vegan restaurants in Austin every month.

I’m sure that there are other events in Texas I’m forgetting. Come on down!

    hey sarah,
well, i’m one of the texans…actually, i prefer to be labeled as an austinite, since austin is like a hip, liberal island in the middle of texas ;). don’t know about vegan festivals ( though the vegan pad thai at the whole foods raw bar CANNOT be beat), but we’ve got a lot of great music festivals—particularly the ACL (austin city limits) festival held in october…
    lots of love,
    krista

I visited Texas last year… there was loads of wonderful food in Austin (including a great, affordable macrobiotic restaurant with great community ambiance; i can’t remember its name unfortunately..) but we also visited San Antonio and Fredricksburg — and it was really tricky to eat there. NO VEGANS IN FREDRICKSBURG. living there, i suspect you’d have to do all your cooking at home and take it with you.

Another Austinite who reads your site! Austin is definitely worth a visit, there are no vegan only restaurants but plenty of veggie friendly stuff: the already mentioned macro cafe Casa de Luz, bbq tofu at Mother’s Cafe, the vegan breakfast platter at Kerbey Lane Cafe, vegan Chinese food at Veggie Heaven, etc.

I can’t speak for Texas, although I did find a nice health food store that had freshly made vegan muffins while I was driving through Amarillo, I can say that here in New Mexico we have a number of veggie/vegan folk. I was an East Coast kid so NM was never on my radar until I somewhat randomly moved out here a few years ago. We only have 2 million people in the entire state, which happens to be the 5th largest state in the US so there’s not a HUGE population here but Albuquerque has about 1/2 million people and more than one all veggie restaurant. We also have quite a few Health Food Stores, I can think of at least 6 off the top of my head but I know there are some I haven’t even been to yet. I wonder how we ranked on you Search list?
