Holy Moly! It’s Nov 1st! Time to change the calendar page!! How is it November already?
I’ve had TONS of people asking me when the 2012 GoVegan calendar will be hitting stores but sadly my publishers decided not to do any more calendars. 🙁 But the good news is that I do have a new iPhone/iPad app that will be released in a few weeks. Stay tuned for upcoming details on that … 🙂
This month’s photo is my homage to The Clash. The pose in the photo was SO hard for us to get correctly some reason … I think partly because I’m 5foot1 and and Paul Simonon (who’s the one smashing his bass in the photo) is super long and lanky.
This album cover is a homage of a homage as The Clash were acknowledging Elvis Presley …
The Clash were and still are so important to me. In 1978 I was 10 years old and my friends older brother invited me into his bedroom… full of newly emerging hormones I thought maybe he was going to kiss me but instead he played me The Clash on his turntable. The Clash were the first punk band I ever heard and my brain exploded.
I don’t know how or why I connected so deeply with The Clash but I felt like they were singing for me. We were from completely different worlds. I was a 10 year old girl in the middle of Saskatchewan and they were punk kids in London UK but I connected to the rage and frustration and fell in love with the punk scene.
The punk scene is where I met my dear friend Peter (who’s love of The Clash knew no bounds) and he and I connected deeply through our shared love of the band … The anniversary of Peter’s passing just came and went and 11 years later I still think about him every day. Especially when I hear Joe Strummer shouting about Career Opportunities through my speakers. #bittersweet
This months recipe is for Green Split Pea soup … it’s a perfect recipe for Nov cold weather and it reminds me of when I used to have a mohawk and green hair. 🙂
FYI. While I was looking on youtube for a Clash video to post I found this … Hilarious!
